The University of Arizona’s Grand Challenges Research Building (GCRB), is designed to support advanced interdisciplinary research. The 115,000-square-foot, seven-story building houses laboratories and research spaces for programs focused on optics, quantum computing, advanced communications, and biomedicine.
Sun Mechanical’s scope of work included the installation of advanced HVAC and plumbing systems, designed to maintain precise environmental controls throughout the building’s three floors of dedicated lab space and research suites. These systems were optimized for energy efficiency and scalability, with flexible configurations to support the specialized needs of each research area. The integration of ventilation systems and advanced climate controls ensures that labs, instrumentation suites, and collaborative spaces maintain ideal conditions for research in sensitive fields like quantum networking and optical sciences.
